FWC approves closed season for Amberjack

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has approved a rule that creates a two-month closed recreational harvest season for amberjack in Gulf of Mexico state waters.

The annual closed season will be from June 1st through July 31st beginning this summer.

The rule was approved contingent on the federal government approving the same closed season in federal waters.

Currently they have the closure in effect as an emergency measure.
Gulf amberjack are considered to be overfished and undergoing overfishing.
