~ Safety agencies to host car seat check event ~
TALLAHASSEE – A majority of child safety seats are installed improperly, which puts children at risk. To help parents and caregivers make sure your child is properly secured in a safety seat or booster seat, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles will host a child safety seat event this Saturday.
Details of the event are as follows:
What: Child Safety Seat Check
When: April 30, 2011
Media availability 10 – 10:30 a.m.
Where: Toys “R” Us/Babies “R” Us
1625 Apalachee Parkway
Tallahassee, FL 32301
Who: Nationally Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, Safe Kids USA, the Florida Department of Transportation, the Florida Department of Health and Leon County Emergency Medical Services will be available to inspect child safety seats for the public.
The Department will have a limited number of convertible car seats and booster seats available at no cost for families that cannot afford to purchase them for their children. For information on new federal guidelines on car seats and boosters, please visit http://www.flhsmv.gov/ SafetyTips/CPS.htm.
