Wakulla County Sheriff Office deputies responded to a drowning reported at 2 p.m. at Shell Point Beach on Saturday, April 30. After discovering the deceased fisherman, the sheriff’s office turned the case over to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), according to Sheriff David Harvey.
Joseph H. Boggs, 83, of Griffin Ga. was fishing 300 yards off Shell Point Beach with Charles A. Moss, 80, also of Griffin when Boggs complained of not feeling well. Boggs lost his balance and fell overboard. Moss attempted to pull his friend out of the water and with the help of another boater, loaded Boggs into the Good Samaritan’s vessel.
The victim was determined to be deceased at the scene. WCSO investigators collected evidence at the scene and turned it over to FWC. Lt. Mike Kemp investigated with Captain Steve Ganey, Deputy Taff Stokley and FWC Officer Blake Hoelscher.
