Local cardiologist wants to rent historic Chapman Auditorium

County commissioners are looking at the possibility of leasing the Chapman building in Apalachicola to a local cardiologist.

Doctor Dr. Shezad Sanaullah requested that he be allowed to lease the bottom floor and half of the top floor for his practice.

His current building has a tendency to flood which is bad for the equipment and has floor which shfts a little and throws his nuclear camera out of alignment.

Dr. Sanaullah added that part of his need is financial.

In recent years he has seen his reimbursements fall by 30 to 40 percent while his costs have risen.

He said if he wants to stay in this area he has to find ways to cut costs.

The Health Department has been using the Chapman Building for the past year but is in the process of moving out.

The building should be available by late June.

The county has never set a price for leasing the building.

That’s something they are going to have to work on now.

The board will also be required to seek bids for the building since they are considering leasing public property to a private company.

A request for bids should be in the local paper in the next few weeks.
