Memorial Day Concert in the Park

The second annual Summer Concert Series – Music in the Park starts on Saturday May 28 for Memorial Day weekend.  This is a free concert sponsored by Franklin’s Promise Coalition and will feature the smooth jazz tones of Hulon Crayton and the On Call Jazz Band.  Come out and enjoy food and refreshments prepared by the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) and Renovatio Youth Leadership Program.  Music starts at 7pm at Riverfront Park in Apalachicola.

Proceed from this event is a benefit fundraiser for both youth organizations and will help pay expenses for an overseas educational excursion to visit Italy, Spain, France, Ireland and the United Kingdom.

The Franklin County Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is an organization dedicated to students taking ownership and responsibility for their education.

Renovatio Youth Leadership Program (RYLP). RYLP is a leadership program which gives high school students from around the country the opportunity to review their life and set meaningful realistic goals to brighten their future accomplishments.

YAC is involved in many different things that help the community. They participate in the College Advising Program, where they take students from the Franklin County High School to different Colleges around the state.  Last year the students went to The University of Florida and this year the students went to the University of West Florida. YAC also holds an annual banquet called the S.T.A.R. Banquet (Student Teacher Administrative Recognition), to recognize all of the hard work the Students and Faculty put in throughout the year. During the S.T.A.R.s Banquet many students are awarded college book scholarships, also funded through YAC.

YAC is also teaming up with the Renovatio Youth Leadership Program (RYLP). RYLP’s overall goal is to provide a forum which will foster and breathe new life into their leadership skills. This year these groups sponsored a class to receive the school supply boxes distributed to every student in the county.
