Community Updates for 5/22 through 5/28 on The Half Shell
This may be from the Seafood Workers Association - the links have good info.
The Following are Community updates on The Half Shell for the week of 5/22 thru 5/28.
The Half Shell Web Forum on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/user/TheHalfShell?feature=mhee Half Shell Channel has posted a series of videos covering last week's (5/23) important meeting between the Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture, the Director of the Division of Aquaculture, and Franklin County Seafood Harvesters and Processors:
Video from a public hearing of proposed amendments to the rules regulating the summer harvesting of wild oyster in the public harvesting areas of Apalachicola Bay. Oyster harvesters and Seafood Processors turned out to ask questions, share ideas on how best to implement rules in an economically viable way, and still meet Gulf-wide goals of illness reduction.
In addition, The Half Shell has posted a video clip from the Franklin County Seafood Workers Association meeting where, at the behest of the Commissioners, an election of officers was held.
Newly appointed FCSWA President, Shannon Hartsfield, led a re-energized core group of seafood workers in attendance at the Eastpoint Volunteer Firehouse. The meeting agenda included the nomination and formal elections of a new slate of officers, and discussion of the shelling money and it's allocation. Commissioner Bevin Putnal, a life-long oysterman, was in attendance, and commented on this latter issue. A major updating of the by-Laws will be considered at the the next meeting. The Half Shell will keep you apprised.
