fLORIDA HIGHWAY pATROL RELEASES RESULTS FROM Holiday ENFORCEMENT EFFORT

David Brierton, director of the Florida Highway Patrol, today announced the preliminary enforcement results from the Patrol’s Memorial Day holiday enforcement period.  During the four-day heightened enforcement period, FHP increased the number of troopers patrolling Florida’s roadways. Auxiliary troopers augmented FHP’s force.

Troopers issued more than 14,400 traffic citations and made 163 arrests for Driving Under the Influence of alcohol or drugs.  They cited more than 5,500 drivers for speeding and more than2,700 for failure to buckle up.

“The Florida Highway Patrol is committed to safeguarding everyone on our highways,” said Colonel Brierton. “Through aggressive enforcement, we aim to prevent crashes and save lives, leading the way to a safer Florida.”

The members of the Florida Highway Patrol would like to remind everyone that it is the law to move over when approaching any authorized emergency vehicle or wrecker displaying rotating or flashing lights stopped on the side of a roadway.  Also, remember to dial *FHP (*347) from your cell phone to report an aggressive driver or to request roadside assistance.
