Franklin County issues outdoor fire ban

The Franklin County Board of County Commissioners vested with the Franklin County Emergency Management Director has taken action to impose a burn ban effective June 17, 2011 and open fire pose an extreme hazard and threat to public safety because of the extreme drought conditions in the county.

IT IS HEREBY ORDERED THAT, during the local state of emergency it is unlawful for any person to ignite or otherwise cause an open fire. This ban shall include, but not limited to the use of fireworks, sparklers and burning in a barrel. This ban shall not include cooking on grills outside, but grills must be attended at all times and all wood and charcoal grills should be completely extinguished before leaving.

Exception to this burn ban may be granted by the Division of Forestry after request for such exception is submitted by the individual concerned and an onsite inspection is made and it is determined by the Division of Forestry representative that such burning can be safely accomplished.
