FWC to consider changes to Florida's speckled trout and shark rules

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is considering some changes to the state’s management plans for speckled trout and for sharks.
Proposed changes for speckled trout in the northeast, southeast and southwest regions of the Florida where fishermen could see a reduction in closed months and possible an increase to the bag limit in the southern region.
The FWC will also discuss possible modifications to the commercial open season.
There will be a series of public workshops to discuss speckled trout – the closest to Franklin County will be held on Monday, June the 20th in Tallahassee and June 21st in Panama City.
The FWC is also holding public workshops to gather public comments on adding hammerhead and tiger sharks to the list of prohibited species.
The Commission will also gather comments on requiring circle hooks and regulations that would limit the practice of chumming when fishing for sharks from shore.
The closest shark hearing will be held on Tuesday, June 28th in Destin.
