Franklin County moves forward with community health needs assessment

County officials are moving forward with a community health needs assessment from the National Association of counties to see how resident’s views of Franklin County’s health care system have changed over the past few years.

Franklin County is one of three counties in the country working with National Center for Rural Health Works consultants to find out what type of medical services are still needed in Franklin County and the issues that are keeping us getting the services we need.

They will also look at the economic impact of the local health care sector and look at ways the health care system can better meet community needs.

The board has already been given a draft questionnaire of a survey that will be done with Franklin County residents.

They have also scheduled community meetings on the health surveys for November 3rd and December the 1st

A similar assessment was done in 2006, but since that time the county has enacted a one cent sales tax for health care, taken control of the local hospital and built a new medical clinic in Carrabelle.

This study will help the county see if there have been any improvements in the community’s view of local health care.
