Bay scallop season continues into September

The recreational harvest of bay Scallops will be allowed through most of September so if you haven’t gone out yet there is still some time to try bay scallop fishing for yourself.

Bay scallop fishing will is allowed through September the 25th this year about two weeks longer than usual.
The state approved the extended season this year to help relieve Florida fishing communities suffering from economic hardships due to the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
Open scalloping areas on Florida’s Gulf coast extend from the west bank of the Mexico Beach Canal in Bay County to the Pasco-Hernando county line.

The most popular bay scalloping site in our area is the St. Joe Bay in Gulf County.

If you decide to take part remember there is a daily bag limit.

Recreational harvesters are limited to 2 gallons of whole bay scallops in the shell or 1 pint of bay scallop meat per person.
