County agrees to provide workers with more sick leave

County employees won’t get a raise this year but the county commission will make it easier for them to visit the doctor when they need to.

On Tuesday the board agreed to give its workers an extra hour of sick leave every pay period.

The county was giving each worker three hours of sick leave for every pay period.

Employees save up their time and then use the time when they get sick, have an accident, or even have a doctor’s visit.

Workers are also allowed to give the time to their fellow workers if one particular employee misses a lot of work.

Commissioner Bevin Putnal, who brought up the issue, said state workers get 4 hours every pay period and he feels it would help workers if they could have that extra hour.

It might even cut down on workers having to use each others sick time.

Basically the increase will give county workers 3 more sick days every year.

The increase only affects employees who work directly for the county commission.

Constitutional officers have their own policies for their workers.

The new policy will take effect on October the 1st.
