County reps meet to discuss Restore Act 2011
Representatives from 8 Florida counties met with Senator Bill Nelson this week to discuss a proposed Senate bill that would insure that BP money goes to the counties most impacted by last year’s oil spill.
The bill, call the Restore Act 2011, is sponsored by the ten U.S. Senators from the five Gulf States.
The legislation provides that any fine money levied to BP be distributed equally among the five Gulf States.
As currently proposed, 75 percent of the money sent to Florida would be distributed directly to these eight impacted counties allowing them to fund local environmental restoration and economic development projects.
In addition to Sen. Nelson, other elected officials in attendance were State Representative Doug Broxson, as well as county commissioners from Escambia Santa Rosa, Walton, Okaloosa and Gulf Counties along with the Mayors of Destin and Pensacola.
