Crawfordville attorney suspended by Florida Bar

A Crawfordville attorney was suspended this week by the Florida Bar for stealing from one of her client’s trust funds.

Doris Wellman Sanders was one of 16 attorneys disciplined by the bar this week.

Miss Sanders was suspended until further order, effective immediately.

A Bar investigation found that the attorney stole money from a client’s trust fund and then used the money for herself.

While serving as the sole trustee of the trust, Sanders gave gifts to her boyfriend and relatives totaling more than $41,000.

She also paid off two personal mortgages worth $95,000 and paid herself nearly $25,000 in attorney’s fees, but failed to provide an explanation as to what she did to earn the fees.
