Edmiston recognized for environmental work

Long time local biologist and chili judge Lee Edmiston was recognized this week for his years of work in the Apalachicola Bay area.

Edmiston was one of four recipients of the Jim Stevenson Resource Manager of the year awards which goes to state workers who have made the most significant progress in the stewardship of state lands.

The award is selected by a committee of environmental professionals representing the Sierra Club, Florida Audubon Society and The Nature Conservancy.

The award was announced at Tuesday’s cabinet meeting.

Edmiston works for the Department of Environmental protection - for more than 18 years he helped improve the scientific understanding of the Apalachicola River and Bay system as the research coordinator at the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve.

He also acted as the state’s Natural Resources Damage Assessment Trustee for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
