Franklin County School closed on Wednesday

It is now afternoon and the latest on the Franklin County K-12 School District campus is this:

The main breaker for the campus has failed.

Buildings 1200, 700, 600, 500, and the gymnasium are without power.

Bathrooms in these buildings are in working order, but lighting is an issue.

Water fountains are not working in these buildings because current controls this function.

The generator for the freezers and emergency lights is being repaired today.

A generator for the remainder of the campus does not exist.

Mr. Oehlert, Principal, walked every building this morning and documented that education was taking place in the affected high school classrooms or on the elementary school grounds.  Many thanks to the professionals working with our children.   Therefore, school authorities do not consider this an emergency, according to the School Board approved Code of Conduct Attendance Policy, page 9.  Students leaving campus today will have an unexcused absence unless they return with a note from a parent/guardian to Mrs. Karen Smith.

Because it is believed that the main breaker will not be up and running tomorrow, the campus will be closed Wednesday, September 7, 2011.

Please call our Emergency number 670-2850 or listen to Oyster Radio for updates.

Thank you again for your professionalism,

Supt. Marks
