It’s another week with no
swimming advisories in Franklin
County.
Health officials take water samples from
local beaches every week looking for bacteria that could pose a hazard to
swimmers.
The Health Department said water samples
taken from all 6 beaches tested in Franklin
County
last Monday came back clean.
That includes 4 locations on St.
George
Island
as well as Carrabelle beach and Alligator Point.
There were also no swimming advisories
issued for Wakulla
County
or Gulf
County
this week though moderate concentrations of the enterococcus bacteria were
found at St. Joe Monument Beach in Gulf
County.
The
state currently takes weekly water samples from 304
beaches in 34 counties but is considering some changes to the beach
water testing program. Those changes include reducing the number of locations they monitor, reducing sampling from weekly to biweekly and suspending winter sampling at beaches where swimming is minimal.
