Northwest Florida Water Management District gets grant to continue work on flood maps

The Northwest Florida Water Management District has been awarded 1.7 million dollars to continue its work updating Flood maps for Northwest Florida.
The grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will allow the district to continue its flood mapping for the Chipola River and New River basins.

The Water Management District is in the process of update flood maps for the entire District which reaches from the Florida/ Alabama line to Jefferson County.

The district has already done a lot of the work and much of it is already available to the public.

The District has created a web portal where residents can review their flood risk without going to a library or planning department.

The web address for the flood maps is portal.nwfwmdfloodmaps.com/.

One there simply type in your address or use the click and zoom feature to locate your parcels and determine whether they are in a flood hazard area.

Flood information is currently available for the 9 coastal counties in the Northwest Florida Water Management District, and the site is constantly being updated.
