SGI Hosts Oyster Festival Oct 7-9
Mark your calendar to attend St. George Island's Oyster Festival Columbus Day weekend Oct. 7-9. This three day festival highlights the county's seafood heritage, particularly the Apalachicola Bay oyster. There will be displays, contests, demonstrations and of course seafood. The event, which will include some Eastpoint activities, will also feature music, a fishing tournament and a 5K run.  Visitors may also climb the Cape St. George Lighthouse, browse the new Lighthouse Museum in the Keeper's Cottage, and visit the new Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve (ANERR) Visitor Center in Eastpoint. Blues Along the Riverfront During October
Apalachicola's riverfront will be alive with jazz and blues music this month as the town hosts a month-long series of benefit blues and jazz concerts. The concert series kicks off October 8 with the Second Saturday monthly event featuring the Smackwater Retrievers group in Riverfront Park. On Oct 15, Grammy-nominee Slim Fats will peform downtown. On October 22, six blues bands will perform as part of a Blues in the Park event and Oct. 28 will bring the King Cotton Blues Band to Apalachicola.

 The Butterflies are Here!
For visitors who enjoy watching nature,  the annual fall migration of birds and butterflies is in full swing during late fall along coastal North Florida. Several types of migrating birds use the coastline along Franklin County as a stopover before they make their long flight across the Gulf to Central America. The annual migration usually peaks after the first cold front of September and will continue until mid November. Some of the migrating bird species you might encounter include warblers, Peregrin Falcons, hawks and Bald Eagles. Common migrating species of butterflies include the Gulf Fritillary and Monarch. Black Bear Festival Carrabelle Oct. 15
Carrabelle will host the Forgotten Coast Black Bear Festival on Oct. 15 from 10-4 p.m. This festival in Carrabelle will feature live music, presentations by bear experts and even guided tours into Tate's Hell National Forest to observe bear habitat up close and personal. Spooky Fun Halloween Weekend
Lantern Festival. On Oct. 28-29 Carrabelle Beach will be the site of the Crooked River Lighthouse Lantern Festival. The main event is Saturday night from 5pm until 10 pm featuring a display of more than 116 lanterns, tales of ship-wrecked captains, and night time tower climbing. The event, is sponsored by the Carrabelle Lighthouse Association, and will also feature music, tales of the high seas and a rare opportunity to climb the lighthouse at night!
Ghostwalk. Historic hauntings will be lured forth in Apalachicola on October 29 at the Chestnut Street Cemetery in Apalachicola. From 7-9 p.m. local history enthusiasts from the Apalachicola Area Historical Society will don the garb and take on the personna of several of the cemetery's more notable inhabitants to tell their tale of life in Apalachicola more than 100 years ago. Florida Seafood Festival Nov. 4-5
The 48th Annual Florida Seafood Festival kicks off in Apalachicola November 4-5. Heralded as the State's oldest maritime event, this annual fall classic is a celebration of the Franklin County commercial seafood industry. There will be music, rides, games, and fresh seafood to eat all day. Don't miss the oyster shucking and oyster eating contests. Saturday's musical headliner is Travis Tritt.. Oyster Roast Nov. 4
Dine under the stars in the heart of historic Apalachicola at the 7th annual Apalachicola Oyster Roast on November 4th 6-9 pm.  Come enjoy Apalachicola Bay seafood in historic downtown. This annual event, a fundraiser for the Apalachicola Bay Chamber,  features roasted oysters, oyster on the half shell, creamy artichoke and oyster bisque, shrimp, locally caught blue crab, and scratch-made cakes and desserts.
