Carrabelle History Museum Launches Tarpon Exhibit This Weekend
The Carrabelle Historical Society launches its newest exhibit “The Last Voyage of the S.S. Tarpon”, this month at the Carrabelle History Museum. There will be a reception on Sept. 3 from 7-9 p.m. that will include a discussion and gathering of crew descendants of the vessel that once plied area waters. The Carrabelle History Museum is located at 106 Avenue B, S.E. (behind the BP station. (850) 524-1153. Also in Carrabelle, the Carrabelle Boat Club will host a Labor Day Cookout on Sept. 4 from 10-4 pm. there will be live music, free food and, weather permitting, free boat rides to Dog Island. Join the community and share in the "We Love Eastpoint Day." - a community event to bring awareness to the unique culture and history of Eastpoint. Also in Eastpoint this weekend you can get your fill of barbeque at the Eastpoint Pork-a-thon to benefit the Eastpoint Volunteer Fire Department. Blues Concert on the Dock Saturday in Apalach
Labor Day Weekend also Kicks off the first in a series of waterfront blues and jazz concerts at Riverfront Park in Apalachicola. The first concert, Saturday Sept. 3 from 8-10 pm, will feature the Pepper Drive Blues Band. The concert is a fundraiser to help the Franklin County Food Pantry. Additional concerts in October are planned for the Riverfront Park venue, located on Water Street in historic Apalachicola.

Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival Continues Sept. 2-3, 2011
The Wild and Scenic Film Festival continues in Apalachicola on Sept. 2-3 at the historic Dixie Theatre. The reception begins at 6:00 p.m. and the film festival begins at 7:00 p.m. each evening. Admission is free.
Considered the largest environmental film festival, this year’s films include a combination of local interest films and films that take you to exotic places. Merrill Livingston will be screening her local film, “A Different Way of Doing Business” about creating a sustainable community grocery in Red Bay, Florida. On Friday night September 2, Merrill Livingston will be on hand in Apalachicola with Charles Morgan, Red Bay Grocery founder and entrepreneur to talk about creating the film, "A Different Way of Doing Business." On Saturday September 3 in Apalachicola, Jonathan Wickham will be the featured speaker. Wickham is producer of Saturday’s feature film, “Chattahoochee, Water Wars to Water Vision” with Rhett Turner of Red Sky Productions.
