Florida's roads were dangerous over the Christmas holidays

The number of deaths on Florida’s roads over the 18 day holiday nearly doubled from 2010.

Preliminary figures from the Florida Highway Patrol show 111 people died on Florida's roads over the Christmas and New years holidays.
That was almost double the 60 deaths recorded over the same period last year.
There were more DUIs over the holidays.
Highway Patrol troopers made 505 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs - compared to 407 a year ago.
Troopers issued more than 35,000 traffic citations, cited nearly 13,000 drivers for speeding, and issued over 2900 citations for failure to buckle up.
