The Franklin County School
District has announced its teachers of the
year.
A teacher at the elementary, middle and high school
level as well as a teacher from the Franklin Learning center were selected for
the honor.
Sharon Solomon was named Teacher of the Year at the
Franklin Learning center.
She teaches reading there but has been in the local
school district for 27 years and has worked as a middle school science teacher
and a reading Coach for Middle and High school students.
She was chosen the Apalachicola High
School teacher of the Year in 1996.
The Elementary School Teacher of the Year is Audrey
Gay.
She currently teaches 5th grade Math and Science but
has taught in Franklin County for 38
years with 27 of them as the second grade teacher at Chapman Elementary
School.
She was Teacher of the Year from Chapman Elementary
School in 1984, 1996, and in 2006 when she
was also voted the Franklin County Teacher
of the Year.
The Middle School teacher of they year this year is
Andrea Keuchel.
She is currently teaching middle school language
arts and also taught at Brown Elementary.
She was Teacher of the Year at Brown Elementary in
2005 and the Franklin County Middle
School Teacher of the Year in 2011.
This year’s high school teacher of the year is Karl
Lester.
He is currently teaching Music and Band at Franklin
County Schools for 7-12 grade and Band.
In his 17 years at Franklin County he has
also taught Instrument Music at Brown Elementary and Chapman Elementary, and Apalachicola High
School.
He was the Apalachicola High
School Teacher of the Year in 1999.
This year’s district teacher of the year will be
announced during a banquet for the Teachers of the Year.
The banquet is tentatively set for February 9th.
