School tax referendum next Tuesday

If you are a registered voter in Franklin County don’t forget there is a school district referendum next Tuesday.

The Franklin County school district has scheduled a referendum for March 6th so voters can decide whether to allow the school district to increase its operating budget by a half mill.

It’s estimated that would raise around 700 thousand dollars a year which would go to money teacher and employee pay as well as other operating expenses.

The referendum is the same as one that passed in 2008.

When voters approved the issue in 2008 it was for four years; that term will end next year.

The referendum is technically a tax increase though taxpayers shouldn’t see an increase in their tax bills.

That’s because the increase in the operating budget will be offset by a half-mill decrease in the school system’s building fund which the school board will have to approve.

The vote will be held next Tuesday – the polls will be open from 7 till 7.

Atten: All Franklin County Voters: Read how the referendum really works:

IT IS NOT A TAX INCREASE. It is simply a transfer from Capital Projects to General Fund. Capital Project Funds can only be used for things such as buildings, equipment, repairs and renovations& Buses. Well, we have and new school. The school district has recently lost the federal grants from the Stimulus Plan and that has put a lot of pressure on General Fund.
Keep in mind if the referendum does not pass ABC CHARTER SCHOOL WILL LOSE TOO. When the referendum was passed four years ago, the district agreed to give them a portion of the (LCIF) Local Capital Improvement Fund raised by the referendum. THIS AMOUNT IS ALREADY BEING CHARGED TO ALL FRANKLIN COUNTY LAND OWNERS, IT IS SIMPLY A SHIFT FROM ONE FUND TO ANOTHER.
So, Not only will this affect the Franklin County School District, It will have a negative effect on ABC Charter also. This is the money that ABC uses to fix their school. So what we are talking about here is the WHOLE School District.
I have been retired over a year. But, I did the accounting for these projects for 24 years and I know how the funds work…. I do not have a child in the school system. I get no benefit from what I am saying. I just know that all involved lose.
If not passed the money would simply sit in the Capital Project Fund of the Franklin County School Board and ABC CHARTER WILL LOSE MILLIONS!!!
IT IS NOT A TAX INCREASE … SIMPLY A FUND SHIFT…. IF NOT APPROVED, TAXES WILL NOT GO DOWN.

For your information:
1. Retirees DO have to pay thier health ins.
2. Teachers DO NOT earn annual leave.. Just how much of thier Statistics are true?
