Carrabelle River could lose boat slips to make room for barges

Carrabelle could lose a number of boat slips on the river from C-Quarters Marina to make room for large barges.

The Army Corps of Engineers said that Jimmy Crowder excavating has requested a permit to remove 35 of the 41 boat slips at the marina at 501 St. James Avenue.

The work would include removing all of the piers and pilings associated with the boat slips but would leave the existing dock parallel to the shore which would allow for the docking of large barges.

The Corps says they don’t feel the project will negatively impact the environment or any protected animal species in the river so they will likely not have to perform an Environmental Impact Study.

Members of the public can ask for a public hearing on the project.
