The Tourist Development
Council uses money raised through a local bed tax to promote Franklin County to potential visitors.
The spending plan approved by
the county last Tuesday was actually approved by the Tourist Development
Council and has been in effect since late last year.
The plan estimates how much
money the TDC will have to spend through the 2013 fiscal year and sets some
guidelines as to where the money should go.
It specifically sets aside
about 200 thousand dollars for use in converting Coombs Armory in Apalachicola into a convention center.
30 thousand dollars is also
earmarked to construct a nature museum at the Lombardi boat ramp area west of Apalachicola and another 77 thousand will be used to purchase more
land around the Lombardi site.
The spending plan also
requires that 5 percent of the bed tax be held in reserve.
The TDC said the biggest
change in the spending plan is that there is no BP money in the budget.
The advertising program BP
provided will mostly dry up at the end of April.
