Bis smiles - Franklin County Health Department gets grant to provide affordable dental care


Franklin County residents will have easier access to dental care in the near future.

The Local Health Department has been approved for a 90 thousand dollar grant that will fund 5 day a week dental services from the Carrabelle health department building.

The services will be provided at the Carrabelle health department building, and work began this week to install the necessary machinery and dentists chairs.

The services should be up and running by mid-August.

The health department has also been approved for a 25 thousand dollar grant that will provide dental sealant for local schoolchildren is 2nd and 7th grades.

Those services will be offered at the Franklin County School beginning with the new school year.

The dental services will focus on preventative care and employ a full time dental hygienist and also pay to have a dentist scheduled for restorative care like pulling teeth of filling cavities.

The Health Department is now applying for a 300 thousand dollar grant to expand dental services even further.
