WEEKLY REPORT
April 20 – 26, 2012
This report represents some events the FWC handled over the past week; however,
it does not include all actions taken by the Division of Law Enforcement.
NORTHWEST REGION
OKALOOSA COUNTY
Lt. Keith Clark, Officer Pete Rockwell, and National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Officer Grant Demesillo were on vessel patrol in federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico, south of Destin Pass. The officers observed a charter boat traveling toward the patrol vessel. Upon stopping the vessel to conduct a fisheries and license inspection, NOAA Officer Demesillo established communication with the vessel operator. The operator stated they caught and harvested gag grouper in state waters. The fisheries inspection revealed four gag grouper, greater amberjack, vermilion snapper and gray triggerfish. Officers explained to the operator that the recreational harvest of gag grouper is prohibited in state and federal waters from November 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012. It was determined the charter boat did not have the required federal reef fish permit. The operator was cited with a federal violation for possession of gag grouper and no federal reef fish permit.
