Summer Breakspots to provide fresh food for Florida children this summer

Local children will have access to fresh food all summer through the Summer Breakspots program that is being provided through the Department of Agriculture.

Summer BreakSpot began as a pilot program in eight counties last summer and was managed by the Florida Partnership to End Childhood Hunger and Florida Impact.

This summer, the program has expanded to include more than 2,500 partners and will serve children in all of Florida’s 67 counties.

Not only will the program offer breakfasts and lunches to children in need this summer, there will also be learning activities.

The Franklin County locations for the Summer Breakspots will include the old Apalachicola High School and the Apalachicola Bay Charter School.

The program will also be offered at the Franklin Learning center, the Franklin County school and the Carrabelle Municipal Complex.

Breakfast will be offered at all locations from 8 till 9 Monday through Friday and lunches from 12 to 1.

Parents can learn more about the program and find locations in their area by calling 2-1-1 or going on-line to summerfoodflorida.org.
