Children’s Hospital is Assisting Families with Healthcare Insurance Enrollment for Children

Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart is assisting families with enrolling children under age 19 in health insurance through Florida KidCare.

Florida ranks third in the U.S. for the number of uninsured children, with more than 500,000 young lives without coverage. Children who do not have health insurance often miss preventive care, such as immunizations, doctors’ visits, vision care and dental check-ups.

“Regular physician and dental visits are important to children’s good health,” says Cheryl  Pilling, Manager of Sacred Heart’s Community Wellness Outreach Program. “The earlier a problem is detected, the better chance a child has of getting treatment and avoiding complications.  Helping families is core to Sacred Heart’s mission, but keeping children healthy is good for our community.”

Sacred Heart has received a grant to provide one-on-one assistance to parents, grandparents and guardians in understanding their options and enrolling in the Florida KidCare program. A community-health worker will be available to help families in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton, Gulf and Franklin Counties.
