Disaster Recovery Center to open in Franklin County
There will a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) opening Wednesday July 11, 2012 at 8:00am till
6:00pm for residents affected by Tropical Storm Debby. The DRC will be located at 192 14th
Street in Apalachicola. The reason this location was identified is FEMA requires the county
to provide a building with 2,000sq feet, 6-10 phones lines, data line with a DSL modem. This
location meets this requirement. Community partners are already located at this facility to
address other un-met needs therefore cutting down on having to travel to another facility. These
are some of the agencies that will be located at this facility.
1. FEMA: Please call 800-621-3362 if you have sustained loss or damage to your home (living
space only) Business if you have damages please apply also. If possible, before going to a
disaster recovery center, people with storm or flooding losses should register with FEMA. There

2. SBA: low–interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration are also
available to help with residential and business losses not covered by insurance. Survivors and
businesses may obtain information on SBA disaster loan applications by calling 800-659-
2955 (800-877-8339 for people who are deaf or hard of hearing) or online at www.SBA.gov.
They may also apply for disaster loans electronically from SBA’s website at https://
disasaterloan.sba.gov/ela.
3. Disaster Unemployment Assistance: DUA helps people who have become unemployed as a
direct result of a declared disaster and who do not qualify for regular Reemployment Assistance
benefits (formerly unemployment compensation benefits). The DUA program covers individuals
who are self-employed and owners and workers of farms and ranches, as well as fishers and
others who are not normally covered by state reemployment assistance benefits.
Floridians eligible for DUA include those who meet the following federal requirements:
• Exhausted entitlement to state Reemployment Assistance benefits (formerly
unemployment compensation benefits) and worked or lived in a county for which the
disaster has been officially declared; and
Became unemployed as a direct result of declared disaster; or
Were unable to reach their place of employment as a direct result of the disaster; or
Were scheduled to begin work and do not have a job or are unable to reach the job as a
direct result of the disaster.
