FEMA and SERT going door to door in Franklin County

Don’t be surprised if you get a knock on the door from people representing FEMA or Florida's State Emergency Response Team, but make sure you verify they are who they say they are.

Both groups are going door to door in the 11 declared counties with disaster assistance information to help survivors recover from Tropical Storm Debby.

The teams are visiting with individuals to provide information on resources that are available and to identify people who need assistance in the federally designated counties including Franklin and Wakulla counties.

Anyone representing the SERT or FEMA carries a photo ID ensuring they are easily identifiable.

FEMA and SERT teams also wear agency shirts.

Officials with the FEMA and SERT teams will not request personal information such as Social Security or bank account numbers.

Survivors will only be asked to provide personal information only when calling FEMA to register the first time.

Once a survivor has registered with FEMA, an inspector will call and set up an appointment to see the damaged property.

If you suspect someone is claiming to be from FEMA or the SERT when they are not, call the sheriff’s office immediately.
