Franklin County Commissioners are getting ready to start
their annual budget negotiation process.
The commission has will hold its first budget workshop on
Friday beginning at 9 o’clock .
The workshop will be held at the Franklin
County Courthouse annex in Apalachicola .
Commissioners are expecting to have to make some tough
decisions this year.
Taxable property values this year have fallen about 13
percent from last year.
That will translate into about 1.2 million dollars less for Franklin
county to use in its budget if it doesn’t raise taxes.
The county will also lose about 293 thousand dollars because
of the loss of a federal contract that allowed federal prisoners to be held at
the county jail and see an over 32 thousand dollar loss in Medicare sharing
payments.
The budget workshop is open to the public.
