FWC DIVISION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT
WEEKLY REPORT
July 20 – 26, 2012        
 
This report represents some events the FWC handled over the past week; however,
it does not include all actions taken by the Division of Law Enforcement.
 
NORTHWEST REGION
 
ESCAMBIA COUNTY
 
Officer John Clark obtained a warrant on an individual for grand theft. An individual checked out a spotting scope and a tripod from Big Lagoon State Park and never returned it. The items were valued at $600. Officer Clark discovered the individual was already incarcerated on other unrelated charges. Officer Clark notified deputies at the Escambia County Jail and the warrant was served on the individual.
 
Lt. Brian Lambert was on patrol in the Bluff Springs area of the Escambia River Wildlife Management Area when he observed two individuals sitting in a parked car smoking a substance using a soft drink can. He also observed the driver of the vehicle throw trash out the window. When Lieutenant Lambert approached the individuals, he discovered the substance was spice. He issued citations for inhalation of an intoxicating substance and for littering.
 
OKALOOSA COUNTY
 
Officer Alan Kirchinger was on patrol at Crab Island near Destin when he observed a vessel operator violating the posted No Wake zone. When Officer Kirchinger stopped the vessel, he observed indicators of impairment from the operator. The man performed poorly on field sobriety tasks and was arrested for boating under the influence (BUI). Officer Andy Maltais assisted with transporting the operator to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office where the man provided a breath sample of .148 g/210L.
 
Lt. Mark Hollinhead checked a vessel late at night returning to a private dock from fishing along the Santa Rosa Sound after someone reported the subjects onboard were catching and keeping undersized spotted sea trout. A fishery inspection revealed the subjects were in possession of undersized trout, as well as undersized redfish. Citations were issued for the fish violations and for failure to possess a non-resident saltwater fishing license.
 
WALTON COUNTY
 
At approximately 9 p.m., Officer Randall Brooks was on water patrol in the area of Choctawhatchee Bay south of Lagrange Bayou, when he observed a vessel being operated on plane without any navigational lights. Officer Brooks initiated a vessel stop and made contact with the vessel operator. The operator had bloodshot, glassy eyes and was unsteady on his feet. Officer Brooks had him perform field sobriety exercises. Officer Brooks determined that the operator’s normal faculties were impaired and subsequently placed him under arrest for BUI. The subject had a BAC of 0.191 and 0.198.
 
HOLMES COUNTY
 
Officer Hampton Yates received a complaint from the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office regarding an individual who killed an alligator off Arrant Road. Officer Yates made contact with the complainant and with the suspect. The suspect admitted to Officer Yates that she killed the four foot long alligator with a two-by-four. Officer Yates issued the suspect a notice to appear for unlawful taking/possession of an alligator.
 
BAY COUNTY
 
Plain-clothes Officer Neal Goss was working in a covert capacity at the Dupont Bridge when a man came running from the opposite side of the bridge to where he was parked. Officer Goss observed the man throw a redfish over the guard rail towards a parked vehicle. Officer Goss continued to observe the individual and then observed him place the redfish into the trunk of his car. Officer Goss walked over to the man and identified himself, asking to inspect the fish in the trunk. The redfish measured 39 inches long. A citation was issued for possession of oversized redfish.
