Gulf county fishermen busted for "electro-fishing"

Fish and wildlife officers busted a couple of people for electro-fishing in Gulf County last week.

Electro-fishing is when a shocking device is used to stun the fish so they can be lifted out of the water with a dip net.

It is illegal in Florida.

FWC officers were told there were a couple of people doing it so they went to the Iola landing in Gulf County to wait on them.

An inspection of the boat found numerous flathead catfish but no fishing.

There was, however, a long handled dip net.

The men admitted to catching the fish with a shocking device.

Their fish were confiscated and each of the adults received a misdemeanor citation for taking freshwater fish by an unlawful method.

A written warning was also issued to a juvenile onboard.
