Tax collector explains where local tax dollars go

In case you are wondering where your 2011 tax dollars are going, Tax collector James Harris broke it down for the county commission on Tuesday.

The county collected over 22 million 200 thousand dollars in taxes by April the 1st; nearly 9.5 million went to the school system and 9.1 million went to the county commission.

Over 1.1 million went to the city of Apalachicola and a little over a million dollars went to the city of Carrabelle.

The Alligator Point water District got 268 thousand dollars, the Eastpoint Water District got nearly 141 thousand dollars and Dog Island received over 112 thousand dollars.

The Northwest Florida Water Management District received just over 73 thousand dollars.

Mister Harris said this year’s tax certificate sale was also very successful.

Nearly 100 bidders attended the tax auction and bought up all of the tax certificates, allowing local taxing authorities to recoup all of the tax revenue.
