Caitlin's 2nd Annual Beach Cleanup is coming up August 15th

Caitlin's 2nd Annual Beach Cleanup is coming up this month.

The Beach cleanup will be held on St. George Island on August the 15th from 8 till 10.

The event is the brainchild of Caitlin Smith who was 11 when she decided cleaning the beach would be a good way to protect local marine life and make the beach prettier for visitors by removing empty bottles, broken glass, and cigarette butts.

Last year
25 volunteers joined in to help her and they picked up nearly 50 bags of trash from the beach, Lighthouse Park, Pine Street, Island Drive, and the south side of the bridge.

That came out to about 400 pounds of trash.

This year she is hoping for a bigger turn-out.

If you would like to take part in the 2nd Annual Beach Cleanup, volunteers will meet up at Sometimes It's Hotter, 112 E. Gulf Beach Drive.

After the event, Sometimes It's Hotter will be serving refreshments for all of the volunteers.
