Hurricane Isaac Road Advisory Update – Number 5

Chipley – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is providing an update on road and bridge closures and restrictions in Northwest Florida due to Hurricane Isaac.

FDOT has suspended interstate and highway maintenance and construction indefinitely to allow for an increase in traffic as motorists evacuate from the Florida panhandle coastline area. All rail, transit and seaport facilities are functioning as normal.

Bay County
·         Several local roads in Big Daddy Drive area of Panama City Beach closed due to water and rising surf.

Escambia County
·         Pensacola International Airport has suspended operations and is projected to re-open 7 a.m. CDT on Wednesday, Aug. 29.
·         Via de Luna Road east of Portfina closed due to flooding.

Franklin County
·         The St. George Island Bridge/State Road (S.R.) 300 is now open.
·         Mill Road closed one mile north of the intersection of U.S. 98 and River Road in Carrabelle due to flooding.
·         Intersection of Gulf Shore Road at Alligator Drive is restricted due to water on the roadway.
·         North Sawyer Street in Eastpoint is restricted due to the water on the road.
·         East Pine Street in Eastpoint is restricted due to the water on the road.

Gulf County
·         County Road (C.R.) 20 near Wewahitchka is closed from White Drive to Overstreet Road.
·         Jarrott Daniels Road near S.R. 22 is closed.

Santa Rosa County
·         At the direction of the Florida State Emergency Operations Center, tolls have been suspended on the Garcon Point Bridge in Santa Rosa County to aid in evacuation efforts. Tolls will remain suspended until further notice.
·         J.E. Bowden Way (C.R. 399) between Pensacola and Navarre is closed.
·         Peter Prince Field Airport is closed.

Walton County
·         DeFuniak Springs Airport is closed.

Motorists are encouraged to monitor weather reports and road conditions and to be on the lookout for flooded roads. If the road ahead is flooded, turn around and find an alternate route. Flooded roads may hide the fact that the roadway is washed out underneath and as little as six inches of rushing water can force your car off the road.
