Mock elected Franklin County sheriff, Putnal loses in re-election bid


Franklin County voters elected Mike Mock as sheriff on Tuesday.

Mock was one of three candidates for the office – he won big with 2292 votes.

Cliff Carroll came in second in the race with 1283 votes, 255 people voted for Jeff Vonier.

Pam Shiver won in the race for the District 5 school board race, beating incumbent Carlton Whaley 442 votes to 367.

Long time District 5 county commission Bevin Putnal also lost in his re-election bid.

He was defeated in the primary race by William Massey 345 votes to 262.

Massey will now go on to face Hank Garrett in November.

District 3 commissioner Noah Lockley won his primary race against Valentina Webb 2ith 381 votes to 218.

Mister Lockley, a Democrat will now face Republican Wilmer Deason in November.

And Franklin County voters also sounded off in a number of races Tuesday.

Franklin County voted for Barbara Hobbs for Circuit Judge.

Local Republicans chose Connie Mack in the US Senate primary, Democrats chose Bill Nelson.

In the primary race for state representative, more local republicans voted for Halsey Beshears than his three opponents, while registered Democrats chose AJ Smith overwhelmingly over his two opponents.

And local democrats voted for Al Lawson to represent District 2 in Congress.

He received 2 more votes from Franklin County democrats than Leonard Bembry.

It was a pretty weak voter turnout on Tuesday – less than 53 percent of local voters went to the polls.
