Water Street Festival of Ice kicks off Saturday


Apalachicola’s History, Culture and Arts board will kick off its third annual Water Street Festival of Ice on Saturday.

The festival celebrates John Gorrie’s invention of the ice making machine which led to creation of air conditioning.

The festival will have different every Saturday in August – this Saturday includes the opening of an ice era exhibit at the Center for History, Culture and Art on Water Street from 6 till 8 PM.

There will also be free snow cones and live music at Riverfront Park from 8 till 10.

Other events scheduled for the rest of the month include an ice cream churn-off and tasting on August the 18th and an ice carving and open house at the Gorrie Museum and the Apalachicola Library on August the 25th.
