The 2012 recreational season for bay scallops will end at midnight tonight so you might want to get out today and the get some bay
scallops while its still legal.
The 2012 season began July 1.
Generally it would have ended on September the 11th but the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission extended the season
permanently this year to help increase business opportunities during a time of
the year when other fisheries are closed and tourism has decreased.
Surveys will be conducted after the season closes to assess the
scallop population.
Scallop harvesters can assist the FWC 's scallop survey
by completing an online survey, indicating where they harvest scallops, how
many they collect and how long it takes to harvest them.
