Seafood Safety Project Helps Developing Nations Detect Shellfish Toxins -Learn how NOAA's Dr. Vera Trainer and colleagues recently developed a community-based phytoplankton monitoring network and trained personnel how to conduct rapid toxin analysis in Indonesia, Guatemala, and the Philippines, countries at risk of human illness and death through unregulated shellfish consumption during toxic events.
Northeast
NOAA Fisheries Finds Record Highs in Sea Surface Temperature - During the first six months of 2012, sea surface temperatures along the Northeast Continental Shelf were the highest ever recorded, intensifying annual plankton blooms and potentially causing Atlantic cod to continue shifting northeastward from its historic distribution. Learn more about impacts this warming may have on the ecosystem.
