County commissioners will once again
consider a request from the St.
George
Island
Fire Department to increase the MSBU for island residents.
MSBU assessments are levied on every home
and business in Franklin
County
to help pay for fire protection.
Currently homeowners county-wide pay 50
dollars a year for fire protection; the cost is 10 dollars for undeveloped lots
and 100 dollars for most businesses.
But now the fire department on St.
George Island is looking at whether they can separate themselves from the
county-wide assessment and charge a higher rate for homeowners in their
district to make up for a nearly 45 thousand dollar budget shortfall.
Miss Kim Bodine from the Gulf
Coast
Workforce board will also attend Tuesday’s meeting to discuss potential assistance
to local seafood workers; and Curt Blair will update the board on Tourist
Development activities.
County commissioners will also open bids
on Tuesday for a new 30 ton condenser for the courthouse annex and will
consider issues recently discussed by the county’s planning and zoning
commission and Board of Adjustment.
