Free legal services available to BP Oil claimants
Services provided in four Gulf states by non-profit legal services agencies
Tallahassee, Florida – Legal Services of North Florida, Inc. (LSNF) and The North Florida
Center For Equal Justice (NFCFEJ) are pleased to announce that we have been awarded
funds to assist residents throughout the state of Florida, including the Florida Panhandle
and the Gulf Coast. Assistance will be provided in filing claims under the Court Supervised
Settlement Program in the national class action. Project attorneys will assist claimants with
the settlement claims process, including explaining the documentation needed, and reviewing
settlement offers and representing some claimants. No attorney’s fees will be charged for our
services.
A toll free number is available for all Floridians, 855-299-1337 or access by e-mail at
mary@nfcfej.org. There are specially trained attorneys in LSNF’s Pensacola, Fort Walton
Beach, Panama City, and Tallahassee offices where potential claimants can request services.
The claims process is often confusing and complex, including multiple types of claims, some
of which were not compensated in prior claims processes. Types of claims include small
business losses, damages related to ownership or rental of property, and medical claims.
“The seafood and tourism industry are the life blood of the Gulf Coast of Florida. Many of
the jobs and individuals living in the north Florida panhandle have depended upon the Gulf
for their livelihood and way of life for generations. Disasters happen everywhere, but the
BP oil spill has taken the heart out of many families who have always lived financially on
the edge. Whatever we can do to help our neighbors, we must do now. Our thanks to the
Mississippi Center for Justice for coordinating efforts to provide legal representation, and to
the court settlement efforts for creating an avenue for justice for those who were victimized
by the BP Oil Spill,” says Kristine E. Knab, LSNF’s Executive Director.
If you suffered any damages as a result of the April 2010 oil spill, please contact your nearest
LSNF office or NFCFEJ.
