Landfill amnesty days are popular

The Amnesty days held monthly at the Franklin County landfill over the past year have proved relatively successful and certainly popular.

One day a month the county allows residents to dispose of white goods, yard trash and personal construction and demolition debris without paying a tipping fee.

Over the past year 621 people have taken advantage of the service.

In all, they’ve hauled nearly 790 tons of material to the landfill on amnesty days.

The service cost the county just a little over 10 thousand dollars, the cost stems mainly when the event is held on Saturdays when the county has to pay extra for employee overtime and equipment usage.
