Personal Appeal for Bay

Dear Apalachicola Bay Community Leader and Citizen:

This video contains footage taken just one month ago, during the first shelling operations by FCSWA in Eastpoint.  It's titled, "The Heritage of Eastpoint - Oyster Harvesting".  http://youtu.be/hi5WRclAgPY

I spent some quality time with the harvesters and FCSWA folks that day, and I put the footage together last night as a personal appeal to Floridians for help with sustaining and restoring our Bay, and its resources.

But I also wanted to highlight something that was made very apparent to me over two years ago during the Oil Spill response;  that is that the harvesting community, and the community as a whole not only really care about our precious gift, the Apalachicola Bay, but they want a hand in helping it stay healthy.  So I just wanted to tell other Floridians that we don't just want a hand out.  We would like a hand up, and a "hand in" (jobs!) restoring the Bay.  There is an immense amount of institutional knowledge and valuable observations that can be tapped in the harvesting community.  I urge you to do so.

Sincerely,

Robin Rickel Vroegop
