Public invited to view proposed flood maps

Florida will adopt updated flood maps in 2013, and if you would like to get a look at the proposed maps before they are adopted, your chance is coming up.

These new maps are part of FEMA’s efforts to modernize flood maps for communities nationwide.

The maps for Jefferson, Franklin and Wakulla counties are still preliminary, and will become effective after a public comment period.

The Northwest Florida Water Management District and the Federal Emergency Management Agency have scheduled a series of open houses in Jefferson, Franklin and Wakulla county so residents can look at the updated flood maps and learn what the new maps may mean for their property.

During the Open Houses, residents can meet one-on-one with specialists to discuss the preliminary maps, flood insurance, engineering and more.

Local officials will also be available to assist citizens.

The Franklin County open house will take place on Wednesday September the 12th from 4 till 7 PM at the Franklin County courthouse Annex.

The Wakulla county open house will be held on the 14th at the Wakulla County Commission Cambers on Arran Road.
