Summary:
· As of 5am EDT Tuesday, Tropical Storm Leslie was located about 545 miles south-southeast of Bermuda, which is also approximately 1,112 miles east-southeast from Miami, Florida.
· Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph. Although little change in strength is forecast for the next couple of days, there is a 73% chance that Leslie could become a hurricane within the next 5 days.
· Leslie is moving toward the north at 5 mph and the official forecast from the National Hurricane Center shows a very slow northward movement for the next few days. On this track, Tropical Storm Leslie may approach Bermuda this weekend.
· Further east, Tropical Depression Thirteen developed Monday evening and as of 5am EDT Tuesday, T.D. #13 was located 1,435 miles northwest of the Cape Verde Islands.
· Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph and little change in strength is expected during the next couple of days.
· TD 13 is moving toward the northwest at 6 mph and this general motion is expected to continue through today. TD Thirteen is then expected to turn toward the north-northwest and north on Wednesday. The official forecast from the National Hurricane Center keeps Tropical Depression 13 in the open Atlantic Ocean and far away from any land area.
Florida outlook:
· No part of Florida is within either 5 day error cone and neither Tropical Storm Leslie nor Tropical Depression 13 is expected to have direct impacts on the Sunshine State.
· Although no direct tropical impacts are expected in Florida, large waves and ocean swells from Leslie are impacting the Florida East Coast. A high rip current risk is in place from Volusia County through Martin County today with a moderate risk in place northward to the Florida/Georgia border. By Wednesday, a moderate to high risk will likely be in place along the entire Atlantic Coast.
