Commercial King Mackerel fishing closes FridaY

Commercial fishing for King Mackerel will close in the Northern Florida West Coast subzone beginning at noon on October the 5th.

The affected area reaches from the Alabama/Florida border east to the Lee/Collier County line.

NOAA Fisheries is closing the commercial fishery because the annual quota of just over 197 thousand pounds has been reached.

During the closure, commercial fishermen cannot fish for or keep mackerel caught in the closed zone; there is an exception for commercial vessels acting as charter boats.
