Tropics Update: Thursday Morning Summary on the Remnants of Nadine and Tropical Storm Oscar

Summary:

  • As of 11am EDT Thursday, Tropical Storm Nadine finally lost its tropical characteristics and has finally become associated with a cold front. The remnants of Nadine were located about 85 miles north-northeast of the Azores Islands.
  • Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph, and the remnants are moving towards the northeast at 24 mph.

·         Elsewhere, Tropical Storm Oscar was located about 1935 miles west-northwest of the Cape Verde Islands.
·         Oscar has strengthened slightly and has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. Little change in strength is expected over the next day or so before it gets absorbed by a cold front and dissipates within the next 36 hours.
·         Tropical Storm Oscar is moving towards the north-northeast at 9mph. Models, as well as the official forecast from the National Hurricane Center, suggest that this system will stay over the open Atlantic waters as it turns toward the northeast later today.

Florida outlook:
  • The Remnants of Nadine will not impact the Sunshine State.
  • Tropical Storm Oscar is not expected to bring any impacts to Florida.
