Count Birds For Christmas
When the eggnog is gone, come outside and join your neighbors for Franklin County's 19th Annual Apalachicola Christmas Bird Count (CBC). This fun and informative activity is hosted annually across the country and offers visitors and residents an opportunity to spend a day in nature and help the National Audubon Society monitor the country's avian population.  The Apalachicola CBC is scheduled for Friday, December 28.

Areas included in the Apalachicola count include St. Vincent National Wildlife Refuge,  Little St. George Island, and the Apalachicola Bay. The Apalachicola bird count usually turns up nearly 140 different types of birds from hawks to herons to sparrows.

Audubon and other organizations use data collected in this longest-running wildlife census to assess the health of bird populations - and to help guide conservation action. For more information on how to register, visit the National Audubon website.
